Shielding Solutions

Controlling the RF Environment

Effective electromagnetic testing depends on controlling the environment in which measurements are performed. Magnetron Systems provides shielding and absorber solutions designed to control unwanted electromagnetic energy, reflections and external interference across a wide range of RF and EMC applications.

Creating controlled RF environments for reliable measurement and testing.

Shielded Rooms

Controlled RF Environment for Secure Testing & Measurements

A Shielded Room provides a controlled electromagnetic environment by isolating sensitive equipment and devices from external electromagnetic interference while preventing unwanted RF emissions from escaping the test environment.

Magnetron Systems designs and supplies custom-engineered RF Shielded Rooms for applications ranging from EMC pre-compliance testing and RF measurements to secure communications, equipment development and specialised laboratory environments. Each solution can be configured according to the required frequency range, shielding effectiveness, room dimensions, access requirements and testing application.

Standards / test methods:
IEEE-299
IEC/EN 50147-1 March 1996
Typical performance of RF shielded rooms:

All RF shielded rooms are customized to our customers’ individual requirements.
Options for inner furnishing of RF shielded rooms. Upon customer request RF shielded rooms can be lined with plasterboard walls and a suspended ceiling. The floor of the shield room can be constructed of wood with a vinyl topping flush to the door threshold. In a control room or data center the floor can be constructed as a raised floor to enable easy cable routing (ducting). The raised floor is constructed using standard anti-static floor tiles onto adjustable pedestals, in order to withstand an minimum average payload of 500 kg/m2. A raised floor system provides a flush and threshold less entrance to the control or amplifier room when a EMC facility is built inside a pit.

Customized to Your Requirements

No two shielded rooms are the same. Magnetron Systems develops each solution around the intended application, equipment configuration and required shielding performance.

From a compact laboratory enclosure to a large-scale shielded test facility, the system can incorporate RF doors, filtered power, signal penetrations, ventilation, lighting, grounding, cable interfaces and other auxiliary services while maintaining the required shielding integrity.

Engineered. Integrated. Verified.

Our solutions can be supplied as a complete package including design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and shielding-effectiveness verification, providing a ready-to-use controlled RF environment.

Shielded Cabin

The main purpose of the shielded cabin is to provide a mobile test environment. The cabin can be used to collect data and verify the test at different test sites.

 The characteristics of the cabin:

The cabin is mainly composed of cabin, air conditioning, diesel generator, power supply and distribution system, photo system, grounding system and other systems.

The shielding effectiveness meets the requirements of the design.

The operating environment meets the storage temperature, working temperature, relative humidity, protection ability, wind resistance, transportation conditions and shock protection conditions.
Standard / test method for cabin:

GJB 6109A-2007

GJB 150A-2009

GJB 2093A-2012

Other test volume sizes may be provided as required.

TEMPEST Shielded Room

The tempest shielded room is a house which relies on the “Faraday cage” principle of the steel plate structure, including six housing, doors, windows and other general housing elements, only requires tight electromagnetic sealing performance, and all incoming and outgoing pipelines are treated with corresponding shielding treatment, and then block electromagnetic radiation access.

Tempest shielded room:

  1. Prevent information leakage of electronic communication equipment and ensure information security.
  2. Isolation of external electromagnetic interference, ensure indoor electronic and electrical equipment work properly.
  3. Block the diffusion of the indoor electromagnetic radiation to the outside world.

Standard / test method for tempest shielded room:

“Grade division and measurement method of electromagnetic shielding body for military confidential information system” (GJB5792-2006) is now more than D, C and B, among which the shielding effectiveness of D shielding chamber is the highest, and the high standard widely used in practice is C level.

The shielding efficiency of our tempest shielded room is better than that of C.

Reverberation Chambers

A reverberation chamber is a specialized EMC test chamber generating very high field strength using modest amplifier power. The reverberation room is mainly used for testing electrical immunity of test objects. The shielding is established by constructing the test chamber from a 2 mm pan-type galvanized or aluminum panel system. The European reverberation chamber, which is exclusively represented by us, creates a multi-functional EMC test facility for commercial, military and automotive testing.

The reverberation chamber model 1716-0080 has a Lowest Usable Frequency (LUF) of 80MHz. The usable test volume depends on the size of the equipment under test (EUT) and will be determined upon customer request.

Typical features of the reverberation chamber model 1716-0080:

Lowest usable frequency 80MHz
Usable test volume 7m x 7mx 4.5 m

Shielding effectiveness according to EN 50147-1 (>80dB at 10kHz)

Full compliance immunity test site for frequency range of 80MHz to 18GHz as per IEC 61000-4-21
Applicable standards / test methods for the reverberation chamber model 1716-0080:

IEC 61000-4-21
MIL-STD-461-E&F

RTCA/DO-160-G
